Baja Safari Mexican 1000

May 11th, 2023

Baja Safari Mexican 1000. We had a legendary time getting dusty in the desert with the Safari Special team in Baja last week. Hard to believe it’s over, we’d run it back in a heart beat. Safari Special is an archivist project that documents and celebrates the first 10 years of desert racing and SoCal Mexican culture from 1967-1977. This marks the second year of the Baja Safari Mexican 1000, an annual off-road race put on by Safari Special that stretches 8 days— starting in Ensenada and finishing in Cabo. In-house brand De La Calle jumped on the opportunity to sponsor two vintage cars raced in this year’s Baja Safari Mexican 1000— a restored VW buggy and Wampus Kitty, both from the 1960s-70s. From the starting line, in chase cars, all the way to the finish line, De La Calle made sure to supply the entire Safari Special crew, fans, and spectators with ice-cold Tepache, celebrating Mexican history and traditions— no better than on Cinco de Mayo. Stoked to share a few short films that captures our time out in the desert. More coming soon.
